Many years ago, an itty-bitty calico kitty found
her way into our barn - and into our hearts. She stayed with us for 15 years
- until it was time for her to go on ahead.
My young nephew said she had so many colors, she
looked like a quilt; one color next to another color next to
another...thus...The Patchwork Cat.
Calico lived before today's infectious feline
diseases existed. She lived during a safer, kinder time and didn't have the
outdoor dangers that are present today. So having been born a
feral kitty, her greatest joy was to be Country Cat...surveying and
hunting...always within the boundaries of her property...and then staying
indoors and cuddling with her people. The best of both
worlds.
We were privileged to be owned by Calico. She was smart
and clever and loving and funny. She defined her role in life and never
wavered from her perceived responsibilities. She was my very special companion
who saw me through my childhood and young adulthood.
Calico...my sweet patchwork cat.
